Join me in doing a drawing a day throughout August! I was going to join in with one of those Photo a day challenges which is a lot of fun but SO much easier… I like to make things difficult for myself;)
But wouldn’t doing a drawing everyday be so much more beneficial? As an illustrator!! I expect many illustrators already do this but having been to art college, I know not all do! Btw you don’t have to be an illustrator to join in.
The thing is ideally to avoid painting – use line: ink, photoshop, charcoal, colour is ok for line or mark making … but personally I’m trying to push my skill at drawing my surroundings without resorting to the habit of painting. Which is my default through years of painting everything without drawing first. That’s my thinking behind this.
Rules are : draw something – anything – from life… an observational drawing, whether your style is realistic, fluid, abstract; and then post it somewhere on social media either on your blog, facebook page, instagram, where ever you usually post things! I’ll be posting mine here daily but will also set up a hache tag column on twitter so that we …assuming anyone joins in .. can all see what we’re up to. Update – new FLICKR group for those who don’t tweet : http://www.flickr.com/groups/ippdailydraw/
If you aren’t a tweeter then you could come back and make a comment on my blog with a link to where your pic is.. or you may just wish to draw privately. Completely fine. Knowing I have to share will make me do it. If I don’t then I’ll have to do 2 the next day. Gulp
SO share a link of what you do at #ippdailydraw then we can see and comment on each other’s efforts.
I am rusty so by August 31st I should be well oiled
Use whatever media you like: pencil, charcoal, crayon, ink but something that creates a line rather than a painting.
If you feel inspired to join let me know with a comment or find me on twitter @inkpaintpaper or in #ippdailydraw
Look forward to seeing your drawings!

hmm, my drawing is almost infantile, I’m so bad, but this might be what I need to give me some confidence, I may just give it a go. I’ll let you know
Lucy and I will be joining you in this! I’ll use Twitter to share, she’ll use Instagram. Looking forward to seeing everyones drawings.

Hi Gabs, I’ve decided to join in… here’s the link to my first sketch http://tinyurl.com/buobuta, I’ll put all of them on Flickr. Have decided to link this with my ‘drawing trees in summer’ project (killing two birds…etc etc)

Hi Great idea and i want to join in but not having joined into one of these things before and not having twitter I am not sure what to do – i have a blog (several) on wordpress how is it best to do it. Sorry to be so techno mis.
Hi Laura – lovely that you want to join in!
You can simply post on a blog of your choice and then come back here to post the link to your picture on the most recent posting that I make – or post the link on my facebook page and then I can write up a link on Twitter ( either way). Don’t worry too much – no rigid rules. The main thing is doing the drawing and then drawing others attention to it… if you wish.
hope that helps – Gabs
here goes hope this works http://diaryofapainter.wordpress.com/2012/08/02/drawing-a-day-for-august-1/
I love the seascape, georgeous and the dog, very cute.
I’ve done it! Very rusty, but I’m off to tweet!
I read about this on Magic Cochin, and it looked like fun. Also useful, since my drawing is definitely not my strong point. I don’t do twitter, but will be posting every day on my blog Acorn Cottage Artisanry. My post with the first drawing is here: http://artisanry.blogspot.com/2012/08/nightshade-fruit-and-memory.html
I’ve done my first drawing for almost 4 years, and posted it here ; http://joyknitt.blogspot.co.uk/2012/08/a-drawing-day-for-august-day-1.html
I have a twitter account, but I dont use it, as I dont really understand it, so perhaps someone else could post this in the right place for me, please? thanks x x

Would love to join in – it would be a great discipline and get me in the habit of putting pencil to paper – can I put in retrospectively, if I do two today?
You can join any time Jennifer – if you want to do two that’s up to you:) I suppose the key thing is trying to post daily from the point of joining. Things happen though so like you – if I miss a day for any reason I’ll try and make it up the next day!
Thankyou – lovely to be part of the challenge – quite a community of sketchers – lovely to think of lots of others doing just like me with their drawing books! Looking forward to tomorrow’s stint!

Hi. I really like your blog. I’m an illustrator, painter and art licensor and now cartoonist.
Love the daily drawing contest you had in August. Will you be doing it again. I’d love to do it. Thanks for it all.
Andrea Brooks
Hello – thank you! Yes I will be doing it again when work is less hectic. It will probably start again in January from Jan 1st.
